Preikestolen hikes

Preikestolen is a flat plateau at 604 m above the Lysefjord, with no railing at the cliff edge. The standard trail is about 8 km round trip, 4-5 hours, and roughly 350 m of elevation gain from the Preikestolen fjellstue trailhead, reached from Stavanger by a ferry-and-bus combination or a direct seasonal bus. Parking at the trailhead is paid; the plateau and trail themselves are free. With visitor numbers in the order of 300,000 a year, this is one of Norway's most-hiked trails โ€” expect a crowded path and plateau in summer.
