Things to do on the Lysefjord

The Lysefjord runs about 42 km inland from Forsand toward Lysebotn, with walls topping 1,000 m in places and water up to roughly 400 m deep.

Most visitors see it from the water: fjord cruises from Stavanger run a few hours round trip and typically cost a few hundred to around 1,000 NOK depending on route and season, sailing beneath Preikestolen and Kjeragbolten rather than up on them.

The alternative is to look down from above on the hiking trails at those two points, or to drive the narrow, hairpin Lysebotn road along the fjord's inner end, which is closed by snow in winter. A cruise and a clifftop hike are different trips, needing different preparation, gear and time.
