Things to do at Kjeragbolten and Kjerag

Kjeragbolten is a boulder wedged in a crevasse at around 984 m above the Lysefjord, and getting to it is a serious hike, not a photo stop. The round trip runs about 10-12 km and takes 6-8 hours, crossing three steep sections secured by chains, with a roughly 1,000 m drop beside the trail.

Fatal falls have happened here, so this is not a family outing or a casual add-on to a Stavanger visit.

The trailhead is at Oygardstolen, at the end of the Lysebotn road, which closes for winter snow — in practice that shuts off Kjerag access for a large part of the year, so plan for the open summer season and check conditions before you commit a full day to it.
