Jæren beaches

Jæren's long sandy beaches — Orre, Borestranden and Solastranden among them — are a genuine exception in a country whose coastline is otherwise dominated by fjords and rock. The coast pairs beaches with lighthouses at Kvassheim and Obrestad and flat farmland inland around Bryne, all reachable from Stavanger or Sandnes in well under an hour. Swimming is a summer activity only — the North Sea here stays cold even in July.
